This
commission was ordered by the Département of Essonne (91) a sundial
for the Jean Moulin secondary school in Verrières-le-Buisson, completed
in October 2002. It is a horizontal sundial with a parallelepiped-shaped
base. It is entirely made from green granite decorated by sandblasting and
gold leaf application. It is in a cast-iron style. The four faces pointing
to the four points of the compass have decorations with the following symbolisms:
to the North, photosynthesis; to the South, light diffraction; to the East,
the dawn; to the West, twilight. Four mottos—to the North in French,
to the South in Spanish, to the East in German and to the West in English—are
engraved on the ground opposite the four faces. The sundial is erected in
a landscaped interior courtyard at the school.
